岩穴下龙湾地处越南广宁 省，长120km，面积1553 km². 据官方信息，在此共有1969座石灰岩体竖立出水，其中大多数为无人居住的岛，但也有大型的石灰岩结构，高达几百米。受潮汐和气候的影响，很多洞穴由于风和水的作用在岩石中形成。洞穴中有形态奇异的钟乳石和石笋。
