하롱베이는 베트남 꽝닌 성에 위치해 있습니다. 하롱베이는 수천 개의 석회암 카르스트 지형으로서 다양한 크기와 모양을 가진 섬으로 이루어져 있습니다. 이 지역은 그 해안선이 120km에 달하며 1969개의 섬을 포함하여 총면적은 약 1,553 평방 킬로미터에 이릅니다. 섬들 중 일부는 거대한 동굴로 인해 속이 텅 비어 있으며, 어떤 섬들은 200 종의 어류 및 450종의 각기 다른 연체동물이 서식하는 얕은 물에서 어획활동을 하는 어부들이 거주하는 둥둥 떠 있는 마을을 지탱해 주기도 합니다. 하롱베이의 또 다른 특별한 점은 석회암 섬들 내부에 호수가 매우 많다는 것입니다. 예를 들어, 다우베 섬에는 6개의 둘러싸인 호수들이 있습니다. 이들 섬들의 모든 호수는 펑꽁 카르스트지형내의 침식된 돌리네에 형성되었습니다.
