Der Amazonas Regenwald, auch Amazonien oder Amazonas Dschungel genannt, bedeckt eine Fläche von 7 Millionen km², wobei der Wald selbst 5,5 Millionen km² umfasst, die innerhalb von neun Nationen liegen. Der Amazonas beherbergt mehr als die Hälfte des auf der Erde verbleibenden Regenwalds und umfasst weltweit die größte Artenvielfalt innerhalb eines tropischen Regenwalds. Hinsichtlich seines Volumens ist der Amazonasfluss der größte Fluss der Welt, und umfasst mehr als das Volumen der anderen weltweit zehn größten Flüsse zusammen. Keine einzige Brücke führt über den Amazonas.
